Minnesota High School Hockey 3 stars of the night for January 24, 2023

We do a 3 stars of the night team edition for the boys Minnesota High School Hockey teams, and we try to pick out teams that get a big program win, sometimes the fans don’t agree with us but that’s what makes our High School hockey product so unique, everyone has a different opinion.  Here is our recap of the 3 stars from last night in Minnesota High School Hockey:

Osseo 4  Roseville 3  (OT)
The Steffen brothers stayed hot for the Roseville Raiders last night, Luke Steffen had a goal and 2 assists, and twin brother Landon Steffen had 2 goals and an assist, but it was not enough to get the win over the Osseo Orioles.  Osseo 10th grader Gavin Kzchoska would get a powerplay goal in the first period (I believe it may be his first varsity goal), followed by senior Luke Sawicky netting his 20th & 21st goals of the season.  Senior Eli Paloranta would score his 9th goal of the season in OT giving Osseo their 9th win of the year.  They are now 9-9 and have a huge game against Maple Grove tomorrow.  Roseville is now 11-7-1 and will take some time off as their next game is not until February 2nd vs Forest Lake.

Minneapolis 3   Academy of Holy Angels 0
Minneapolis continued their hot play, they have won 8 of their past 9 games, in the past 14 games they have gone 10-3-1.  They were able to shut out a high scoring Holy Angels squad that scored over 4.5 goals per game.  Senior Joel Hanson would get his 4th goal of the season at the end of the first period for Minneapolis, and team-mate John Bebler would score in the first minute of the 2nd period to give Minneapolis the 2-0 lead, that would be enough to win the game but senior Cody Kelker would add an insurance goal 5 minutes into the 3rd to give them the 3-0 victory.  Minneapolis is now 10-6-1 and plays section 2A rival Breck Saturday the 28th at 1:00.  The Academy of Holy Angels is 10-5-1 and will host a hot Blake squad (11-5-1) on January 26th at 7:00.

Sauk Rapids 5   Fergus Falls 3
Sauk Rapids would pick up their 4th win of the season in upset fashion over the Fergus Falls Otters.  Fergus has now lost 3 games in a row and needs to pick it up if they want to finish what they could not do last season and win the section championship game.  Fergus Falls would score first, Sam Dirkman to make it 1-0 Otters early in the first period.  Sauk Rapids would score the next 4 goals, Teagan Dodge and Luke Pakkala would each score twice to give SR a 4-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.  Junior Braden Nelson gets his 4th goal of the season for Fergus Falls to pull within a goal at 4-3 but Teagan Dodge would complete the hatrick for Sauk Rapids with his 17th goal of the season, (empty net) to complete the big upset victory for his squad.  Sauk Rapids is now 4-11 and will play Alexandria January 26th.  Fergus Falls is 8-6-1 and they will play Brainerd tomorrow night at 7:15 at the Fergus Falls Community Arena.
