At the State tournament you can count on expensive food, long ticket lines and Mahtomedi winning their quarterfinal games:

Mahtomedi 5
Orono 2

The score is not a tale of how close this game actually was, in fact Orono had a 2-1 lead with about 8:00 to play in the game, before the Zephyrs as usual found a way to advance to the next round.

The game was 0-0 after the first period, 1-1 after the 2nd period and most fans were thinking it would end a 1 goal game.  Orono got the lead on a goal by Brooks Fegers, it was initially waived off due to a high stick, but video replay confirmed it was indeed a good goal and it was 2-1.  Less than 3 minutes later it was Jake Hodd-Chlebek with some fancy footwork off the face off to tie the game.  Gene Wegleitner would give the Zephyrs the lead about a minute later and they never looked back, 2 more empty net goals would seal the game for Mahtomedi and they advance to semi-final Friday to play the top ranked Hermantown Hawks.
