Moorhead Spuds Reload for 2025–26 After State Title Run

Fresh off a thrilling 7-6 win over Stillwater in the 2024–25 Class AA State Championship, the Moorhead Spuds are not slowing down anytime soon. With a loaded senior class graduating, the focus now turns to a talented group of returning veterans — and a dominant Bantam AA squad poised to make an immediate impact at the varsity level, should they all decide to play high school hockey of course.

Graduating Seniors – 2025 Class

Moorhead will graduate several cornerstone players who were instrumental in their title run:

  • Mason Kraft (Minnesota State commit) – 94 points, Mr. Hockey winner

  • Brooks Cullen (Michigan State commit) – 47 points

  • Tyden Bergeson (Augustana commit) – 51 points

  • Carver Hasbargen, Carter Huotari, Zak Devig, Tanner Gilbertson, Charlie Stenehjem (28 wins, .905 SV%)

These seniors leave behind massive production and leadership, especially Kraft and Stenehjem, who were arguably the team’s MVPs at forward and in goal.

Returning Core for 2025–26

The Spuds are still in great shape with the return of several high-impact players assuming they come back:

  • Zac Zimmerman (76 points) – Electric top-line scorer

  • Max Cullen, Michael Herman, George Arnold, Evan Wanner – Secondary scoring threats

  • Brandon Mickelson, Brady Steffen, Drew Simonich – Core of the blue line returning

  • Nolan Cook – Goaltender expected to take over the starting role after backing up Stenehjem

Incoming Bantam AA State Champs Bring Firepower

Arguably the most exciting part of Moorhead’s future is the incoming class from their Bantam AA team, who dominated this past season with jaw-dropping numbers and a 51–3–1 record.

Top Forwards potentially Coming In:

  • Joey Cullen – 151 points (67G, 84A) in 51 games

  • Henry Buttweiler – 107 points (62G, 45A)

  • Owen Kraft – 88 points

  • John Gramer, Cam Coulter, Noah Petersen, Will Cullen – All added 40+ points

Dynamic Defensemen:

  • Easton Dozark – 69 points and 133 +/- from the blue line

  • Beck Thoreson, Brooks Suter, Gunnar Schock – Physical and mobile contributors

Goaltending Depth:

  • Maddox Gregoire – 1.19 GAA, .936 SV%, 11 shutouts

  • Will Arnold – 1.71 GAA, .909 SV%, 9 shutouts

This group enters high school as potentially the most hyped class in Moorhead history. Expect immediate varsity contributors, especially Joey Cullen and Buttweiler up front and Dozark on the blue line.

Early Outlook for 2025–26

Moorhead could enter next season as the favorite in Section 8AA once again, and potentially the top overall seed in the state. If the returning core meshes with the incoming Bantam AA stars as expected, the Spuds might be headed for back-to-back titles — and a future dynasty.
