Section 1A

The Dodge County Girls High-school hockey team is heading to the X for the 2024 state hockey tournament.  On Thursday, February 15, 2024 Dodge County took on Simley at the Steele County Four Seasons Centre, located in Owatonna Minnesota. The first goal of the night was scored at 4:40 in the first period by Dodge County’s Dasiy Harens, assisted by Alexa Van Straaten. In the second period Dodge County scored 3 more times – Hannah Peterson, Zoe Heimer, Mollie Koch- bringing the score to 4-0 at the end of the second. In the final period of the game Simley’s Valerie Duval put them on the board with an unassisted power-play goal, 4 minuets later teammate Taylor Ralston tipped one, making the score 4-2. To win the game for Dodge County Abby Simons scored an unassisted power play goal making the final score 5-2.

 

Section 2A

Wilmer’s 5-1 win over the River Lakes Stars is sending them to the tourney. On Thursday, February 15 Willmar girl’s hockey took on the River Lakes Stars at the Lund Arena in St. Peter Minnesota. The first period left the score board empty with neither team letting up a goal. At 14:52 in the second, Willmar’s Rebecca Dawson scored a short handed goal to put them on the board, just a minute after River Lakes’ Aubree McDonagh tipped one in on a power play to tie the game up. Final period of the game Willmar scored 4 more goals – Sophia Quinn, Makenna Larson, Lily Jorgenson, Sophia Quinn- making the final score 5-1 Willmar.

 

Section 3A

The Luverne Cardinals girls hockey team took on the Marshall Tigers on February 13 at the Lund arena in St. Peter. This game ended with number 2 seed Luverne upsetting the number 1 seeded Tigers, the Cardinals will be advancing to the state tournament

 

Section 4A

At the Richfield ice arena on February 15 the Academy of Holy Angles Stars took on the South Saint Paul Packers. The game ended with a 4-3 victory for the Stars, in the beginning of the first Bella LaMere scored the first goal of the game for the Stars, assisted by Emilie Anderson and Marci Jung. Just 5 minuets later the Packers snuck their way onto the board with a power play goal scored by Annie Felton, assisted by Eva Beck and Lily Pachl. The Packers had another power play goal in the second period scored by Alida Ahern, the Stars not wanting to be left in the dust later scored 2 goals, one on a power play secured by Harper Poehling, and just 6 minuets later an unassisted goal put away by Maysn Mullin. This brought the score to 3-2 with the Stars leading, and the end of the second. Just 4 minuets into the third the Stars’ Emilie Anderson tapped another in making this a 4-2 game. Alida Ahern scored her second goal of the night, and the last goal of the game. Bringing the final score to 4-3 Academy of Holy Angles.

Section 5A

On February 14 at the St. Louis Park Rec Center the Orono Spartans took on Mound Westonka/South West Christian. This match up ended in a whopping 5-1 win for the Spartans, securing their spot at the X. The Spartan’s Grace Bickett got right to it scoring the first goal of the game at 1:34 in the first, also in the first Gabe Lopez assisted by Alex Christian tipped one in at 13:28. In the second period the Spartans managed to score 2 more goals – Zoe Lopez, Alex Christian. At 2:31 in the third period MWSWC got on the board with a goal by Claire Bolen, making the score 4-1. Orono’s Maddy Kimbrel scored the last goal of the game, bringing the final score to 5-1 Spartans.
