🔵 Orono Spartans Look to Extend State Tournament Streak in 2025

The Orono Spartans look to enter the 2025–26 season riding high after three straight trips to the Minnesota State Tournament. With a strong mix of returning playmakers, offensive depth, and experience in net, the Spartans are poised to once again be among the top contenders in Class A.

While several veteran leaders graduate, the returning core is more than capable of keeping Orono’s championship aspirations alive.

🔁 Key Players eligible to return

Jackson Knight (#34, F, Sr.) (we are hoping he comes back for his senior season!)
Knight led the Spartans with 62 points (33G–29A) in 31 games and was the offensive engine all season long. With his dynamic scoring and clutch ability (3 GWG), he’ll be the go-to leader in 2025.

Rory Kvern (#16, F, Sr.)
An elite setup man and consistent producer, Kvern finished with 44 points, including 28 assists. He’ll be counted on to drive offense and play in all situations.

Luca Decubellis (#3, D, Sr.)
Decubellis tallied 28 points, showing poise with the puck and quarterbacking the power play. Expect him to anchor the top D pair and special teams.

Lachlan Hoffman (#7, F, Sr.)
Reliable two-way forward with 28 points, Hoffman brings balance to the top six and will be vital on both ends of the ice.

Ryan De Lange (#38, F, Jr.)
Quietly produced 12 points in 25 games and could take a step forward with more minutes.

Nicholas Nugent (#22, D, Sr.) and Connor Mallak (#20, D, Sr.) provide experienced depth on the blue line.

Maxwell Lewin (#1, G, Sr.)
Lewin was excellent in limited starts, posting a 2.39 GAA and .902 SV% with one shutout. With last year’s primary goalie graduated, he’ll likely take over as the full-time starter.

🧊 Outlook

Orono may lose some veteran production, but this is still a team loaded with top-end talent, proven scorers, and playoff experience. With Knight, Kvern, and Decubellis driving the core and Lewin stepping into a larger goaltending role, the Spartans have all the ingredients to make another deep run.

A fourth straight state tournament appearance is very much on the table.
