Mahtomedi Claims Section 4A Crown, Returns to the State Tournament
The Mahtomedi Zephyrs are headed back to the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, securing the Section 4A championship with a 3-1 victory over Chisago Lakes.
Game Recap
Chisago Lakes struck first in the opening period, as Austin Slettom found the back of the net at 9:03, giving the Wildcats an early lead. However, Mahtomedi wasted no time responding, with Brock Gutterman tying the game at 14:16 off a feed from Brayden Fuerst.
In the second, Laken Decker put the Zephyrs ahead at 1:39, finishing off a pass from Winston Wright. With a 2-1 lead heading into the third, Mahtomedi locked in defensively and shut down Chisago Lakes’ attack. Wright sealed the win with an insurance goal at 6:53, set up by Cody Loida.
