Mounds View Edges Tartan in Double Overtime Thriller to Advance in Section 4AA Playoffs
Mounds View outlasted Tartan in a dramatic double-overtime battle, securing a 4-3 victory in the first round of the Section 4AA playoffs at Aldrich Arena.
The Mustangs took control early, with Casey Schell netting the opening goal just 1:41 into the game. They extended their lead in the second period when Mitchell Olson scored at 15:59, giving Mounds View a 2-0 advantage heading into the final frame. Olson struck again at 1:55 of the third period, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Tartan roared back in the third period, igniting a comeback with three unanswered goals. Jase Buche put the Titans on the board at 5:32, followed by Braxton Remackel’s goal at 13:16. With time winding down, Morgan Sneen capitalized on a power play at 16:56 to force overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Mounds View sealed the victory in double overtime when Toby Walseth found the back of the net at 7:56, sending the Mustangs to the next round.
Mounds View goaltender Sam Moen was stellar between the pipes, stopping 47 of 50 shots (.940 SV%). Tartan’s Nathan McGuire made 32 saves on 36 shots (.889 SV%) in the hard-fought loss.
With the win, Mounds View moves on to the next round, while Tartan’s season comes to a heartbreaking end.
