Turkey Trot Tournament 2022:
Maple Grove

In the opening game of last season’s Turkey Trot tournament, Maple Grove secured a victory against Edina with a final score of 2-0. Goals were scored by Lucas Margenau at 16:44 in the first period and Blake Steenerson at 14:18 in the second period, both assisted by Lucas Busch. Maple Grove’s goaltender, Jack Roach, saved all 22 shots he faced, earning a shutout. Despite Edina’s efforts, including 4 power play opportunities, they were unable to get past Roach, and Maple Grove started their season with a strong defensive statement.

In game 2 of last season’s Turkey Trot tournament, Maple Grove faced a tough matchup against Wayzata, resulting in a 1-5 loss. The scoring for Maple Grove was led by Lucas Busch with a single goal. On the opposing side, Wayzata’s offense was strong, with Jibber Kuhl and Jake Mattson each netting two goals, and Cade De St. Hubert adding one more to their tally. Wayzata capitalized on their power play opportunities, while Maple Grove was unable to score on theirs. The goaltending was a highlight, with Wayzata’s Will Ingemann making 27 saves on 28 shots.

Moorhead

In the opening game of last season’s Turkey Trot tournament, Moorhead Spuds faced a tough game against Wayzata, resulting in a 3-2 loss. Wayzata jumped ahead in the first period with goals by Jacob Kvasnicka and Jibber Kuhl. Moorhead responded in the second with goals by Aaron Reierson and Joe Kortan to tie the game. However, Wayzata’s Jake Mattson scored the decisive goal in the third period. Despite Moorhead’s efforts, including a total of 22 shots on goal, they couldn’t pull off the win. Wayzata’s power play contributed to their victory, going 1 for 5, while Moorhead did not convert on their two power play chances.
In the second game of last season’s Turkey Trot tournament, Moorhead Spuds secured a 2-0 victory over Edina. Aaron Reierson was the standout performer, scoring both goals for Moorhead—one at 8:53 in the first period and another on a short-handed empty-netter at 16:15 in the third. Moorhead’s goalie, Kai Weigel, was impenetrable, saving all 32 shots for a shutout. Edina could not capitalize on their power plays, failing to score on five opportunities. Moorhead had 22 shots on goal and successfully defended all penalty kills to maintain their lead and secure the win.

Wayzata

In the championship game of last season’s Turkey Trot tournament, the Wayzata Trojans had a strong performance beating Maple Grove 5-1. Wayzata’s offense was led by Jibber Kuhl and Jake Mattson, who each scored two goals, and Cade De St. Hubert, who added another to the score sheet. The Trojans’ goaltender, Will Ingemann, was solid in the net, making 27 saves. Wayzata’s effective use of power plays contributed to their victory, while Maple Grove struggled to find the back of the net despite several attempts.
