Playoff’s are what makes Minnesota High School hockey a one of a kind production, the Girls High School Hockey season is winding down and they will soon be at the state tournament, here is a quick recap of last night’s playoff action:
Section 2A
Hutchinson would dominate the stat line in this one, 51-11 shots on goal and they get the win 4-0 over Mankato West. The Scarlets end their season with a 2-21-2 record and Hutchinson advances to play Litchfield Dassel Cokato tomorrow afteroon.
Waconia would avenge a 5-3 loss to Minnesota River on 12-1-2022 with a 3-0 upset playoff victory. Minnesota River’s season ends with a 12-11-3 record and Waconia advances to play last years section champion Mankato East tomorrow at 2:00.
Section 3A
Marshall would dominate all aspects of this game and win 17-1 over Worthington. The Tigers are now 12-11-3 and will play New Ulm Tomorrow at 7:00. These teams have had 2 close games already this season so this playoff game should be no exception.
Windom earns the opportunity to play Kamryn Van Batavia and her team tomorrow at 6:00 at the Blue Mound Ice Arena. They beat Fairmont 3-1 and hope to not lose three times this season to Luverne.
Section 6A
Breckenridge/Wahpeton pulled off the upset victory over Northern Lakes 6-3. The last time these teams played it was a 6-2 win for Northern Lakes. Breckenridge has the opportunity to even their record to 9-9-1 with a victory 2-14-23 when they play Fergus Falls.
River Lakes will advance to play WIllmar 2-14-23 after their blowout 12-0 win over Morris Benson last night. These teams split their head to head matchups this season, on 1-10-23 Willmar won 3-1, and on 2-6-23 River Lakes got the win 1-0.
Section 8A
East Grand Forks allowed just 7 shots on goal last night when they beat Detroit Lakes 8-0. That win earned a trip to Warroad to play one of the best Girls hockey teams in the sate on Saturday at 4:30 in the afternoon. Warroad won the last meeting 18-0 on 11-22-22.
Thief River Falls had a great night last night, they would get 54 shots on goal and beat International Falls 7-0 and advance to play the #2 section seed Crookston. They have lost two times to Crookston this season, maybe the 3rd time will be the charm???
Section 7AA
Grand Rapids Greenway beat Forest Lake 4-1 and outshot them 33-17. Grand Rapids Greenway now heads to Blaine 2-11-23 for a 4:00 game, they will try avenge a 4-3 loss to Blaine on 11-26-23.
The reigning state champions Andover had no trouble with Northern Tier last night. They got the win 14-1 and dominated shots on goal 55-12. Andover is now 23-2 overall and will host Elk River tomorrow at 2:00.
In the girls game of the night it was Blaine getting the 2-1 OT win over Anoka. Blaine had 91 shots on goal and only 2 went in. This game went to 6 overtimes before a winner was decided. Anoka goalie Gretchen Paaverud made 89 saves in the loss, what an amazing night for her!
Elk River/Zimmerman earns the opportunity to play Andover with a 6-1 win over Duluth last night. The last meeting on 12-17-23 was a 6-0 win for Andover, the winner advances to the section championship game next week.
