Last night was opening night in the Minnesota Girls High School Hockey playoffs and there were a few upsets along the way.
In section 8AA it was Roseau 4-0 over Buffalo.  Shots on goal were 37-15 Roseau, they advance to face Alexandria February 11 in the section semi-Finals.  Buffalo ends the season with a 6-19-1 record and looks to rebound next season.
The biggest upset of the night was Brainerd/Little Falls pulling off a 7-3 win over Bemidji.  They will advance to play Moorhead February 11.  The future for Bemidji is very bright and they will be back and possibly better next season.
Alexandria advances to play Roseau with a 6-3 in over St. Cloud.  The Crush end their season with an 8-18-0 record and a 5th place conference standing.
In Section 7A it was Moose Lake beating Hibbing 4-0.  Moose Lake has had a great season so far and they will play Duluth Marshall February 11.  Hibbing ends their season 7-19-0 and a 6th place conference standing.
Section 8AA Moorhead takes care of Sartell/Sauk Rapids 8-0 and will play Brainerd Little Falls this saturday for a chance to make the section championship game.
Section 7A Duluth Marshall blows out North Shore 10-1, they will play Moose Lake Saturday.
In the section 7AA play-in game it was Northern Tier earning the opportunity to play Andover tomorrow night.   Northern Tier would beat Princeton 1-0 and will need all the luck they can get in tomorrow’s game against the defending state champions from last season.
