It will be a slow day today in the Minnesota High School Hockey world compared to Saturday, there are just 8 boys games on the schedule and 12 girls games. Here are a few boys games that caught our eye tonight:
Northern Lakes (5-8-0)
vs.
Detroit Lakes (11-4-1)
Northern Lakes is ramping up there schedule as we head down the home stretch for the boys high school hockey season. After this game vs a top 10 ranked squad they will play St. Cloud Cathedral, Little Falls, Wadena and Hibbing. This will be a huge stretch for a team that is just 2 years from their first ever state tournament appearance.
Detroit Lakes is having another great year, coach Ben Noah is truly building a great tradition in Northern MN. The downside for this squad is they are in the same section as Warroad, East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls so it will take there absolute best game to win the section and make an appearance at the Excel Energy Center.
Shakopee (11-4-0)
vs
Lakeville South (9-4-1)
This will be a big test for a young Shakopee squad. They come into this game having scored 63 goals on the season, Lakeville South has scored 51. Shakopee’s leading goal scorer is Cooper Simpson, (10th grade) with 22 goals, and leading Lakeville South is senior Ashton Dahms with 12 goals. The Lakeville South Cougars are looking for their 5th straight state tournament appearance out of section 1AA, and Shakopee is looking for their first ever appearance at the tourney as we call it here in Minnesota. If Shakopee can pull of this upset it will be a huge boost for this young teams confidence as we get ready for section seedings and playoff time.
